Did you know that for every 40 seconds that passes by, someone has committed suicide? In that same 40 seconds, 20 people have attempted it. This means that in the past 24 hours, 2160 people have died because they wanted to. What does that say about the state of minds people are in? Something happened in their minds to make that decision. Something went wrong.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep in perfect peace
    those whose minds are steadfast,
    because they trust in you.

If we keep our trust in Christ, we will have peace of mind. Our state of mind depends on where our mind is and determines whether we are happy or not. Our happiness is dependant on two things:

Who we believe in

Who we believe we are

We must be careful about what we think. Most of the times the devil comes and tells us lies. And then he stops because we are telling ourselves these lies and he doesn’t need to do it anymore. Satan is like a DJ, it’s the same lies over and over again. He justs adjust the beats and the flanger. When you were in school, you worried about what subjects to chose, what career you must choose to accept. You fear to be an outcast or losing friends. Remember, if you are an outcast, it’s just a reminder that you are unique. When you get to your last year of high school, you worry about failing, you worry if you will be accepted into colleges. When you get to college, you worry about paying the fees and whether you’ll pass. You worry if you will ever get a job after getting a degree. And when you eventually get a job, you worry about making it to the end of the month. Will you afford this or that? You then worry about retirement and old age. You then look back on your life, what did you do with? Your life was one big worry! You never enjoyed it!

There was once an owner of a refrigeration repair company who was always negative. He never had anything good to say. One Friday afternoon, he walked into a refrigerator and someone closed the door behind him. He was locked in and the company was never opened during the weekend. Trapped inside, he told himself that he was going to die here. He sat in the corner and told himself that he was going to freeze to death. Logically, the human body produces heat. instead of sitting down and doing nothing he could have walked around and created heat energy to survive. Monday morning, the staff found his frozen body in a foetal position in the corner of the refrigerator. Which is strange because that refrigerator came there for repairs, it wasn’t working! He lied to himself and therefore died…

The devil likes to come with his friends. Friends like Fear, Doubt, Worry, Stress, Depression, Hopelessness and Anxiety. These friends like to play with your head. A lot! But here’s the remedy…

Romans 12:2

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

So what is the secret to happiness? The Bible has the answers. All of it! What is the basis of our happiness? Is it in that job? You can change careers at any time. You can lose that job. WIll you be happy when you retire? Is it your relationship? Did you know that it takes 17 months and 26 days to get over somebody? Did you that when you get burnt, there is a certain network of nerves in your brain that get activated? Those same nerves get activated when you face rejection. Relationships will never make you happy if it is your source of happiness. So you cannot have your happiness in something temporary, it must be in something eternal.

Colossians 3:2

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

We cannot have our minds adjusted to this world. We have to keep our happiness in higher things, in that way we will never be disappointed.
