I have recently been added to a group chat on Facebook and they have been posting warnings about women who wear trousers, claiming that any women who wore trousers will go to hell. Intrigued by the comments, I asked them where does it say this in the Bible?
Someone commented with a scripture, Deuteronomy 22:5 which says the following:
There shall not be an article (keli) of a man upon a woman, and a man shall not put on a wrapper of (simlat) a woman, because everyone doing (who does) these (things) is an abomination of (unto) the Lord your God.
Apart from the fact that ‘trousers’ is not mentioned here, trousers never even exist back then. So where do these people come from with their crazy teachings? Is this legalism or truth? I knew a girl who was in the engineering trade who disbelieved in women wearing pants. However, when it was time for practicals in a workshop, she wore overalls pants with a t-shirt. Her excuse was that it was for work which makes it okay. It’s like a Seventh Day Adventist working on the Sabbath because he had to respect authority. Can you really have double standards?

So where did pants come from? Who invented it? Well, it was invented by the Amazon people, where men and women wore it for battle. this was around the 10th century BC. Also, the whole reason why they even invented trousers was for horseback riding.
After many years of robes, dresses and skirts, trousers made a comeback in the 1400’s for horseback riding. Only high class individuals used them and it became a fashion afterwards. It is said that women only began to start wearing pants recently because it was against the constitutional law to do so. Eventually, they became a norm. One must understand that pants is not exactly unisex but are made differently for each gender. For example, they made Feminalia pants for women which were skinny and tight around the calves while the ones made for men were much broader.
So in conclusion, trousers is not mens clothing. if that’s the case, then so will be every t-shirt, every belt that goes around a skirt, every hat, every shirt or blouse. The difference between these clothing items is that they are made feminine or masculine. it’s all in the shape of the clothing. If you look at the picture below, you will find that there is not much difference between the two besides the shape and design.
A women should avoid wearing skinny jeans, not only does it restrict blood flow in your legs but it also does not show chastity. A godly women does not wear tight clothing to show her body shape to men. She dresses in a modest way that pleases God. Men should avoid wearing skinny jeans! Before you judge women about wearing pants, make sure you are living right. Women shouldn’t wear mens clothing such as formal trousers apart from the ones designed for women. I would rather have a woman walk into my church with jeans on than for her to swing by with a short skirt and a crop top that displays the worlds standards for women. A women should dress according to scripture and not according to worldly fashions.
