I had this weakness with driving. I knew that one day I needed to get my license but I couldn’t drive! I couldn’t get clutch control, and every time I changed gears I had to look at the gear lever and I would go off the road. I just couldn’t grasp the fact that your eyes had to be on the road, on every mirror, on the speed gauge and the blind spot! It was unreal and impossible!
I then was called to an interview. They were quite pleased with my resume but they needed someone with a license. They told me:
You have one month to get your license…
You have got to be kidding me right? What I couldn’t do in four years, you want done in one month?!
Anyway, I wanted the job, so I started going for lessons and praying a lot! Like a lot! I got better and better at it. A lot of people told me to pay a bribe and pass but I refused to dishonour my God. They all told me that I was going to fail because I was doing it fair. There was a lot of odds against me. The car I was learning to drive with broke down! I had to use a different car and that meant I had to get used to that clutch.
I asked an elder from my Church (Brother Leon) to pray for my driving test. He gave me the most encouraging words:
Yes be righteous in all your ways. God is honoured in our lives when we honour His word….
I then realized something. There was no need to fear or worry. If all this was happening in God’s will and plan, all I have to do is trust His purpose.
I eventually went for the test and everything seemed surreal. Like a flash of time passed until I was back at the office signing a form stating that I had passed. The inspector telling me to go to the cashier. Yes God is honoured in our lives…
Unfortunately, the job was taken when I had obtained my license, but I realized two things:
- God arranged all this so that I could overcome my fear and weakness of driving.
- In order to prepare me for what He has in store for me.
I can do all things through Christ…..(Philippians 4:13).
